Pure Solar wins college contract

Pure Solar Ltd have won a contract to help develop the renewable and sustainable portfolio for Hemsworth Arts & Community College.

The renewable energy portfolio will utilise some or all of the following technologies:
• Solar thermal – hot water provision for kitchen(s) and classrooms.
• Ground/air source – hot water provision and space heating/cooling.
• Wind – electricity generation to be used by school or sold to grid.
• Solar PV – electricity generation to be used by school or sold to grid.
• CHP – electricity generation with heat by-product used to heat hot water and space heating.

The resultant portfolio should result in:
Benefit to College through:
i. Significant energy cost savings
ii. Profile & reputation as a forward thinking & caring establishment
Benefit to pupils through:
i. Responsible education
ii. Education in key energy technologies of the future

Pure Solar Managing Director, Chris Whitelock, says 'We are thrilled to have been given this opportunity to contribute both to the fabric of the college and, more importantly, to the education of the pupils. We will be working closely with the college's student energy ambassadors to reflect what they would like to see develop in terms of a sustainable energy portfolio. Our hope is that the college will become an exemplar to the LEA of what can be achieved with forward-thinking student, staff and industry teamwork.'

Pamela Massett, Principal of the college, replied "The college recognises its role in the development of sustainable developments and communities and the part that young people can play through the 'doorways ambassadors' project. As such the college welcomes the opportunity to work with such companies as Pure Solar Ltd in promoting and developing practical applications of energy saving schemes."
